Beagle Freedom Project Rescues 40 Dogs from Animal Testing Lab in Spain

Aug 16 2012

Forty Beagles arrived at LAX last Wednesday after being rescued by the Beagle Freedom Project from an animal testing laboratory in Spain. These poor dears are all fur brothers ranging in age from four to seven years young. They've spent their entire lives in cages within the laboratory. Many of them have injuries and scars from the testing.

From the moment they were born they were literally in a cage, never seen the light of day. The only contact they have is with human beings who literally pick them up to test on them. [volunteer Andy Baker]

So why Beagles? According to Baker, "it's their characteristics which is their downfall." Our Beagle brothers have such a sweet disposition, that they make great candidates for testing.

I am SO happy these fur brothers were rescued but how many more like them are still out there locked in cages and being tested on without ever seeing the light of day? Please spread the word about the Beagle Freedom Project and help them continue their life saving work!

Two paws up to ABC News for the scoop! We have two videos for you below. The first one documents the most recent rescue while the second one documents a previous rescue of nine Beagles from a university test laboratory in San Jose. That second one in particular will make you howl as you see these little angels take their first steps out of the cage onto a substance called grass that they have never experienced.
